Tregagås (A Woman Who Causes Trouble)

Branded whorish, evil, and powerfully witchy, Ragnhild Tregagås of medieval Norway was likely more gullible than calculated, and reacted as one might when the man she loved and trusted didn’t follow through as promised. He chose another, Ragnhild didn’t take it so well, and therefore caused a lot of trouble. Her weapons? Fresh bread, green peas, a dagger, and three demon-charged, flying insects. The spell she cast was so powerful, so potent, that it collapsed her man’s new relationship and ruined his penis. Her public, court recorded testimony on February 8, 1325 in Bergen, Norway preserves the passion and will of this wild woman, who was eventually exonerated after months of incarceration to pray and fast. Yet, after all that penance, she was still forced on a seven year pilgrimage to holy places afar. No one knows if she made it through that pilgrimage or not, but there is no evidence that she ever returned home. We can only hope that this troublesome woman finally found safety and refuge, if not a loyal man or holy relic.
